Presently I enjoy working from my workshop studio designing and creating works in glass including Leadlight Windows and Glass Mosaics; I'm a current member of MAANZ (Mosaic Association of Australia & New Zealand).
I moved to Adelaide from Sydney 31 years ago and it started a creative jouney that I'm still on :-) A friend talked me into trying ceramics which was very popular then and I was fortunate enough to be in a class that had some very good artists that inspired me to try some different things in ceramics. I love dragons and won a couple of first places in the SA Hobby Ceramics Assoc. yearly competitions in the late 90's and was experimenting with carving in ceramics when I met someone that was teaching Leadlight Windows and found my favourite medium; glass.
After creating Leadlight Windows for a few years, I found my passion Glass Mosaics 19 years ago and haven't stopped creating. I love the freedom this medium gives me, I still utilise the cutting skills and glass of Leadlight Windows, but don't have to worry about joins as my background is the mosaic! I especially love making mosaics that feature our native fauna but can create nearly any picture in glass; I try not to restrict myself to any style or genre. I still enjoy creating Leadlight Windows but prefer to make mosaics.
I've been involved in numerous SALA (South Austrlian Living Artists) exhibitions over the last 16 years at my studio and I contribute part of my success to where I live, for a small town Hamley Bridge attracts a lot of creative people to live in it; I think it must be because we're in the middle of two rivers :-)
I'm also a poet who puts my words into some of my mosaics and to photos that I've taken myself of the surrounding countryside and National Parks. The environment and my concerns over it is what inspired me to start writing poetry in the first place but I write a lot of inspirational poetry as well. I'm very fortunate to know lots of creative people who help inspire me! |
